he National Means Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is a scholarship program in India for meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The scholarship is awarded to students studying in classes IX to XII.
To be eligible for the NMMSS, students must:
- Be studying in classes IX to XII in a government or government-aided school.
- Have scored at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the previous class examination.
- Belong to a family with an annual income of less than Rs. 3.5 lakh per annum.
The selection process for the NMMSS is as follows:
- Students apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
- A written test is conducted by the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA).

- Based on the test scores, a merit list is prepared.
- Scholarship is awarded to the students who are in the top 10% of the merit list.
The amount of the scholarship is as follows:
- Class IX – Rs. 12,000 per annum
- Class X – Rs. 15,000 per annum
- Class XI – Rs. 18,000 per annum
- Class XII – Rs. 20,000 per annum
The scholarship is paid directly into the bank accounts of the students.
The last date to apply for the NMMSS 2024 was January 31, 2024. However, the application deadline has been extended to February 15, 2024.
