Grant of Additional Scholarship to OBC Students for Higher Studies, Andaman & Nicobar 2023-24 is an initiative of the Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, for OBC category students of the Union Territory. It aims to provide financial assistance to students who have passed Class 10 or 12 and are willing to pursue higher education. The selected candidates will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹1,000 for 10 months.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian citizen
  • be a domicile of Andaman and Nicobar Island
  • belong to the Other Backward Class (OBC) category
  • have passed Class 10 or 12 from a recognised Board of School Education
  • be a full-time student pursuing higher studies in any government recognised institution, approved by AICTE/UGC, or equivalent bodies, anywhere in the country, such as;
    • All courses leading to a graduate degree, e.g. B.A/B.Sc./B.Com. etc.
    • All postgraduate courses, e.g. M.A/M.Sc./M.Com/M.Ed/M. Pharma., etc.
    • C.A/I.C.W.A./C.S./I.C.F.A. etc.
    • M.Phil, Ph.D., and Postdoctoral progammes (D.Litt., D.Sc. etc.)
    • Degree and postgraduate level courses including M.Phil, Ph.D., and postdoctoral research in Medicine (Allopathy, Indian and other recognised systems of medicines), Engineering, Technology, Planning, Architecture, Design, Fashion Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary and Allied Sciences, Management, Business Finance/Administration, Computer Science/Applications, etc.
    • Postgraduate diploma courses in various branches of Management and Medicine, Commercial Pilot License (including helicopter pilot and multiengine rating) course, etc.
    • Graduate/Postgraduate courses leading to degree, diploma, or certificate in areas like Pharmacy (B. Pharm), Nursing (B. Nursing), LLB, BFS, other paramedical branches like Rehabilitation Diagnostics, etc., Mass Communication, Hotel Management & Catering, Travel/Tourism/Hospitality Management, Interior Decoration, Nutrition & Dietetics, Commercial Art, Financial Services(e.g. Banking, Insurance, Taxation, etc.) for which minimum educational qualification is senior secondary (Class 12)
    • All post-matriculation level non-degree courses for which educational qualification is a vocational stream, ITI course, 3-year diploma course in polytechnic, etc.

Note:- 

  • Students pursuing postgraduate courses in medicine shall be eligible for this scholarship provided they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course.
  • Only two children of the same parent/guardian shall be entitled to receive this scholarship.

The following applicants are ineligible to apply for the scholarship:-

  • Students who are willing to pursue the courses funded by the Central Government/State Government/UT Administration viz, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course, Private Pilot Licence Course, Courses at Training Ship Dufferin (Now Rejendra), training/course at all the Defence Academies (funded by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India), or Pre-Examination Training Centre and all distance education courses.
  • Students who, after completing one stage of education, choose to study at the same stage but in a different subject. For example B.Sc. after B.A. or B.Com after B.A. or, M.A. in a subject after pursuing an M.A. or its equivalent in another subject, etc.
  • Students who, after having completed their educational career in one professional course and applying for another professional course, eg. LLB after B.T./B.Ed etc.
Benefits

The selected scholars will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹1,000 for 10 months.

Documents

  • Income certificate
  • One self-attested copy of each of the certificates of Class 10 or 12 diploma/degree etc., in respect of the qualifying examination
  • One copy of a passport-size photograph with the signature of the student
  • Self-attested copy of caste certificate signed by an authorised revenue officer, not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • Non-creamy layer certificate (in original & one self-attested copy) signed by an authorised Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • An income declaration by the parent(s)/guardian(s), stating substantial income from all sources on affidavit on Non-Judicial Stamp Paper of ₹10. In the case of Government servants copy of the pay slip attested by the DDO concerned would have to be submitted instead of an affidavit
  • Copy of marks statement duly counter-signed by the Head of the Institution concerned
  • Self-attested copy of Aadhaar Card and the first page of bank passbook
How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-

Step 1: Click on the ‘Apply Now’ link below.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Register’ button and fill in the required registration details. (Note: If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to ‘Applicant Corner’ and click on the ‘New Registration’ tab.
Step 4: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the ‘Continue’ button.
Step 5: Select the respective Aadhaar option, enter mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, and then submit.
Step 6: Fill in the required details and click on ‘Save & Register’ to complete the registration process.
Step 7: Now click on the ‘Fresh Application’ tab and log in using the application ID and password.
Step 8: Fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents, and submit the application.

Note: All the applicants are advised to fill out the form correctly, no changes can be made once it is submitted. The applicants are also advised to fill in only one application as multiple applications will cancel the form.
